Alonso plays crucial role in blues win
Alonso was involved in both goals on Sunday as Chelsea overcame Newcastle through a late winner.
The left-back was brought down for Eden Hazard to break the deadlock from the penalty spot, before Marcos’ shot in the dying minutes deflected in for the winner after Newcastle had equalised.
‘Whether they give it to me or as an own-goal, I am very happy for the three points and I am looking forward to the next one now,’ reflected Alonso.
‘It was a penalty, 100 per cent,’ he said. ‘I am not a player that goes down easily and if I go down, it is because it was a penalty and it was good that Hazard put it in.’
‘We can only have patience and play our football and try to find the space to score. There is still room for improvement but the team is looking good and we are doing a good job so far and hopefully we will have more three points next week.’
Chelsea return to the Bridge in the Premier League next Saturday when they host Bournemouth.
