Marquitos – a tribute to a legend

It is in great sadness that I write this piece in tribute to ‘Marquitos‘, Marcos’ Grandfather.

Marcos Alonso Imaz passed away on Tuesday 6th March 2012 aged 79 in Santander. It was in Santander where he first made his name graduating through the Racing Santander youth system before making 42 appearances for their first team.

The defender will be best remembered for his time spent at Real Madrid where he would make 158 appearances. During his time with Madrid he won six league titles and infamously an incredible five European Cups in what is widely known as the best football club side in the world of all time. He also earned two full Spain International caps.

‘I’m the proudest grandson in the world, he was amazing, not only as a footballer but also as a person. He was a big example for me. This is another reason for me to keep working hard in my career to be as good as he was one day. I’d like to thank all the people for their support.’ Said Marcos A.

Marquitos will be sadly missed as a husband, a father, a grandfather and a legend.
