Marcos scores brace in away win
Marcos A scored a brace to help Chelsea beat Champions Leicester to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Alonso found the net after just six minutes with a strike with his right-foot into the bottom corner. The Spanish wing-back added his second early in the second half when his shot from the edge of the area was deflected in. He nearly added a third with a sweet volley from the edge of the box that whistled just passed the post.
“I used to play more forward but in my senior career it is the first time I have scored a brace. I was unlucky not to score again but I am very happy to help the team by scoring goals and I am delighted with the win,” reflected Alonso.
“We played okay in the first half, the manager asked us to give more in the second half and I think the team played very well after the break. We controlled the game and scored another two goals. Against a good team, it was important to bounce back from that defeat against Tottenham and the team showed that we are not afraid and we are going to fight for every game.”
Pedro added a third for Chelsea but it was Alonso who picked up the Man of the Match trophy at the King Power with only Matic topping his 104 touches that dominated his battle down the left.
“There have been a couple of tough weeks after the Tottenham defeat but I think we didn’t play a bad game there and against Leicester, we showed we are still fighting. We have to keep working hard to get another win next week.”
