
Marcos plays in major cup final
Marcos Alonso played in his first major cup final for Sunderland in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium, London.
Seeking their first major trophy since 1973 the Black Cats took on Manchester City, who’s manager Manuel Pellegrini had given Marcos his Real Madrid debut.
Fabio Borini struck first for Sunderland as they led at half time, but the entertaining final turned inside two minutes as City struck twice after the break through Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri.
Jesus Navas added a third with Sunderland throwing caution to the wind to get back level.
Despite the defeat, Sunderland, as underdogs will take heart from the fine cup run that saw them conquer Chelsea and Manchester City and give Marcos his first major cup final appearance.
