Marcos brace gives Chelsea victory
Marcos Alonso gave Chelsea their first Premier League win of the season over last years’ title rivals Spurs at Wembley.
The left-wing back gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead after 24 minutes with a perfectly delivered free-kick before Spurs equalised when substitute Michy Batshuayi headed into his own net from a Christian Eriksen free-kick.
But Alonso was to have the final say in the 88th minute when his low drive flew underneath Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris to give the blues victory.
“I am very happy for the win,” said Marcos. “There was a lot of talk in the week and it showed we are together, we worked hard and we 100% deserved the win.”
“We tried to more of the ball in the second half but they were pressing a lot. We were compact and it was a very good game from us.”
