Chelsea win on Sunderland return
Chelsea beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light last night thanks to a first-half strike from Cesc Fabregas as the Blues recorded a 10th consecutive league victory.
It was a return to a familiar venue for Marcos who spent a short period on loan at the Black Cats early in 2014, when he helped Sunderland retain their top-flight status, as well as feature in their League Cup final at Wembley.
“I’ve played once against Real Madrid but it was a friendly,” explained Alonso who faced a former club for the first time in his career in the Wearside clash.
“I have obviously improved with time. I’m a more mature player now. I think I did very well there and hopefully the fans can remember the good things I did during my time at the club.”
As a left wing-back, Alonso has more responsibility in the attacking third and knows the impact he can have for Antonio Conte’s side…
“I’ve had a few chances and it’s something I have to keep in my head because if I can help the team by scoring more goals I will.”
“I’m always closer to the goal, which is important, and I’m looking to improve in terms of scoring goals and providing assists.”
