Alonso scores winner over Saints
A stunning free kick late in the first half by Marcos Alonso proved the difference between the teams as Chelsea beat Southampton 1-0 this afternoon.
Champions Chelsea made it eight wins in ten Premier League games to put them level on points with second-placed Manchester United.
Alonso beat Fraser Forster from long-range in first half stoppage time to give Chelsea the victory. Marcos has had a hand in 14 goals for Chelsea (10 goals, 4 assists) more than any other Premier League defender.
In other Chelsea news, they were drawn against Barcelona in the next round of the Champions League, a club that Marcos’ father had played 124 games for.
