Alonso amongst Premier League elite
MADRID, Spain – After a successful spell in the Premier League on loan from Fiorentina we thought we would take a look at how Marcos’ stats fared this season.
Alongside survival in the Premier League, in a run that saw them draw with Champions Manchester City and beat both Manchester United and Chelsea on their travels, Marcos also added his first major medal to his collection. Scoring one of the crucial penalties in the shoot-out at Old Trafford that booked Sunderland a place in the League Cup Final, and although beaten in the final, a runners-up medal is something to show for his efforts.
According to Opta Statistics, for left-backs, Marcos headed the minutes per interception ratio with 37, ahead of Davide Santon (also 37), Kieran Gibbs (39), Danny Rose (43), and Cesar Azpilicueta (44).
Azpilicueta led the way on cross completion on 32%, with Marcos in second place with 28%, ahead of Ashley Cole and Liam Rosenior on 24%, Patrice Evra (22%) and Luke Shaw (20%).
Marcos was also in the top three for tackles won on 83%, with only Luke Shaw (85%) and Liam Ridgewell (84%) ahead of him. Danny Rose and Leighton Baines were next up with 81%.
